Steve Bissinger is a composer/songwriter, sound designer, and guitarist who has worked extensively in film, television, advertising, video games, and exhibits. He has written, recorded, and produced albums for many groups, most recently “Christie Winn and The Lowdowns”, and “Mr. Lonesome and The Bluebelles” as well as created sound for numerous feature films and television shows including Northern Exposure.


Steve was born and raised in San Francisco, California. He received a BA in music composition from The Colorado College and an MFA in composition, electronic music and performance from Mills College where he studied with legendary avant-garde composer and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Braxton. In 1989-90 he relocated to Berlin, Germany where he was an active member of the jazz community and researched the role of jazz during the Nazi era for his graduate thesis. This research led to uncovering recordings of the nazi propaganda swing band “Charlie and His Orchestra” and interviews with a few of the surviving members. During his ten years working in Los Angeles he garnered extensive experience in music composition and sound post-production for film, television and commercials. Steve has also served on the faculty of the National Guitar Summer Workshop where he taught jazz theory and performance as well as at San Francisco City College where he taught audio production. Additionally he guest lectures at Mills College for the advanced audio class. Steve currently lives in San Francisco where he continues to compose, perform, record, and design sound for film and other independent projects.

 
Bluebelles in the movies!
The track “Just For You” from The Bluebelles’ new CD can be heard in the upcoming Twentieth Century Fox release “This Means War”, starring Reese Witherspoon. Steve played guitar, recorded and mixed this track.

Award Nomination!
Steve was nominated for a Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing for Long Form Television for his work on HBO’s “Cinema Verité”.
